How do I get to Melbourne from interstate?
All of the major domestic airlines offer flights to Melbourne Tullamarine Airport (MEL). Be aware that some Jetstar flights will arrive at Avalon Airport (AVV); we do not advise this option as Avalon is located considerably further away from the city.
There are several ways to get from Melbourne Airport into the CBD (unfortunately, we still have no airport train):
- A cab ride will cost $56 – $62 and takes approximately 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
- Uber drivers can collect passengers from 2 locations at Melbourne Airport. For Qantas and Virgin Australia passengers, the pick up zone is Lane 1 of the forecourt. For Jetstar, TigerAir, Rex or AirNorth passengers, the pick up zone is Level 2 inside the T4 Ground Transport Hub. Uber is usually cheaper than a taxi, however, it does depend on demand.
3. Sky Bus
- Sky Buses depart every 10 minutes from Melbourne Airport to Southern Cross Station. The journey takes approximately 30 – 45 minutes. A trip costs $18 (one-way) if you book online or $19.50 if you buy a ticket at the airport kiosk.
