Dr Lisa Banh is a Neurosurgery registrar currently working at John Hunter Hospital (Newcastle), and who has worked throughout Australia in various states and hospitals. She strives to be an everyday environmentalist whilst juggling a stressful life at work. She uses her Instagram account @zerowastebunny to promote the benefits of a zero waste lifestyle, and to show that it is possible to make small changes to produce a big impact- no matter how busy life can get. Her main goal has been to show others (especially professionals, doctors, and medical students) that caring about the environment is accessible to everyone – and is everyone’s responsibility at the same time.
As a doctor, she is passionate about how climate change and the state of the natural world impacts on human health globally. The lasting damage that humans have left on the environment is devastating, and our non-sustainable systems of living will be shown to be one of the next big public health problems to deal with in years to come. She hopes that each person she meets can be inspired to do a little better- and in turn become their own guardians of the world and advocate for a brighter future for its inhabitants.
